Site Liaison, Assistant - Reno Office

Starting Salary Range: $48,000 - $55,000 per annum, DOE FLSA Status: Exempt

A position of Model Court Site Liaison (Assistant) is currently available in the Permanency Planning for Children Department. The focus of this position is to serve as a Model Court Liaison to the national Child Victims Act Model Courts and to support the development of other potential Model Court jurisdictions. This Model Court Liaison will be required to build a knowledge base around the dependency OJJDP-funded Model Courts Project, which focuses on improving court practice in child abuse and neglect cases, implement the principles of collaboration among court, agencies, and community, and have experience and knowledge in the juvenile justice and dependency systems.

The Model Court Liaison will be responsible for guiding program activities and meeting grant deliverables under the direct supervision of the Manager of the Model Courts Division. Responsibilities will include: meeting planning and implementation, report writing, regular and ongoing communication with assigned Child Victims Act Model Courts, including Lead Judges and Model Court team members, provision of assistance to assigned Model Courts, including site visits, trainings, response to various technical assistance requests, and work with other NCJFCJ departments to coordinate project efforts and technical assistance. The Model Court Liaison will work as a part of the broader Model Court team, as well as perform collaborative planning and decision-making with other PPCD staff and projects.

The following are the minimum requirements for the position:

  1. A four-year degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, with a major or minor in one of the following disciplines: juvenile justice, criminal justice, criminology, law, sociology, public policy, or a related field. A graduate degree is preferred.
  2. Four years relevant work experience is required.
  3. Computer literacy a must.
  4. Excellent communication skills, follow-through, diplomacy, and the ability to create and maintain efficient working relationships with co-workers, judges, child welfare professionals, community stakeholders, and allied professionals are a must.
  5. Evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime work is required. Extensive travel, both in and out of state is required. Standing and carrying is also required. Lifting up to 50 lbs is required.

The successful candidate should exhibit a high degree of professionalism and skill in interacting with project principals and colleagues, as well as members of the judiciary and other system professionals. The successful candidate must possess independent thinking and analytical skills, and also be able to work collaboratively with a dynamic professional team.

The successful candidate must have the ability to initiate, organize, and follow tasks through to completion. The successful candidate must able to manage multiple tasks and multiple deadlines. The abilities to think creatively, plan strategically, implement team building, and problem-solve effectively are necessary.

The successful applicant will be expected to engage in a wide range of professional activities –,, for example: court observation and documentation of systems practice, group or meeting facilitation, preparation of technical assistance publications, facilitation of training, workshops, symposia, and conferences, research and evaluation activities, and collection and dissemination of court improvement information, including court practices and protocols, legislation, and practice standards. It is the responsibility of the Model Court Liaison to disseminate information gathered from various jurisdictions and projects to NCJFCJ and PPCD colleagues. The Model Court Liaison must develop positive and professional relationships with Lead Judges, attorneys, and other key systems stakeholders in assigned jurisdictions.

This position reports to the Manager of the Model Courts Division of the Permanency Planning for Children Department. A detailed job description is attached.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Site Liaison, Assistant

Position Summary
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting juvenile and family courts and communities to develop, prioritize and reach court improvement goals. Overall familiarity required regarding court practices and processes of courts nationwide. Will communicate with Department Director and staff regarding findings and must balance individual efforts with team in planning and decision-making among staff members.

Position Requirements
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field which may include law, psychology, sociology, social work, organizational behavior, juvenile justice, family or domestic violence, or child welfare from an accredited university, or a minimum of four years of relevant field experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in verbal and written form, with members of the judiciary, court and social service professionals, legislators and national organizations. Must possess independent analytical and problem-solving skills and demonstrate ability to work within a team situation. Initiative, organization, and follow-through required, with emphasis placed on ability to initiate innovative methods in strategic planning.

Observation and analysis of court and systems practice, group or meeting facilitation, preparation of technical assistance publications, collection and dissemination of court improvement information including court practices and protocols, legislation, and practice standards, successful grant and report writing, development and implementation of training, workshops, symposia, and conferences.
