Welcome to the New Nevada Judiciary Website
Wednesday, 15 April 2009 13:26

You are now visiting the new Nevada Judiciary website that has been launched by the Nevada Supreme Court.  It is an expanded, more user-friendly website that provides more information about the high court and the state's entire court system.

The redesigned website has not only a new face, but a new name – the Nevada Judiciary website – and a new web address: www.nevadajudiciary.us, although the old web address, www.nvsupremecourt.us, also provides access.

“The new website is capable of hosting much more information which allows the Court to let the public know more about the courts throughout the state,” said Chief Justice James W. Hardesty.

“The new site also allows easier access to the information,” said Chief Justice Hardesty. “A visit to our home page will show that data is better organized.”

“The Nevada Supreme Court was probably the last state high court to have a website and our old site was rather primitive by today’s standards,” said Justice Nancy Saitta, who heads the Supreme Court’s Judicial Public Information Committee.

“The most obvious change is in the overall look,” Justice Saitta added.  “Our old website was drab and rather uninviting.  Our new design is bright, friendly, and utilizes several pictures and easy-to-navigate graphics.  But we know the visual impact is meaningless if the website does not provide the easy access to information that the public needs, and that is where the new website shines.”

“The Nevada Supreme Court is committed to providing fair, impartial, and transparent justice for all those who come before the courts,” Chief Justice Hardesty said.  “This new website helps us become more transparent in fulfilling our mission.”

The Judicial Public Information Committee – composed of judges, court staff, and members of the media – worked closely with the Information Technology staff at the Supreme Court to develop the new website.  The Committee’s purpose is to work to inform and educate the public about the role of the judicial branch of government.

One advantage of the new website is that it is more interactive.  Easy to use calendars give visitors the ability to see what is occurring on specific dates in the future and even examine past items and activities.

Improved search capabilities make it easier for visitors to find what they are seeking.

Many of the changes, of course, are taking place behind the scenes and will benefit users, but not be obvious to the users.  For example, the new system allows new material to be added faster and current information to be updated automatically.

An embedded video capability allows webcasts to be viewed without having to open an additional window, which keeps users’ computers operating more efficiently and faster.

“The improved website is just the latest step by the Supreme Court in its efforts to provide access to justice to every citizen in Nevada,” Chief Justice Hardesty said.

The new website was originally scheduled to be launched in July, but the Supreme Court fast tracked the redesign to allow its completion months ahead of schedule at nominal cost.  Chief Justice Hardesty added. “I would like to thank the Court’s Information Technology staff and the members of the Judicial Public Information Committee for all of their work to make this project a reality.”
