The AOC Certified Court Interpreters Program hereby announces the offering of Skill-Building Workshops in both Las Vegas and Reno in June 2010. The instructor will be Mr. Agustin de la Mora, Federally Certified Court Interpreter, one of the Supervisor Raters in the U.S. for the National Center for State Courts, speaker and presenter in several national conventions, including the NAJIT, ATA and NASCA.
The dates are Saturday, June 5 in Reno (Reno-Tahoe International Airport, Administrative Offices, 2nd Floor, 2001 East Plumb Lane, Reno, NV 89502) and Sunday, June 6 in Las Vegas (Clark County Government Center, Training Room 3, 500 S. Grand Central Pkwy., Las Vegas, NV 89155) – click here to download location's maps - click here to download airport map. The workshop’s purpose is to assist those interested in undergoing a court interpreter credentialing process by providing some training in preparation for future written and oral examinations. The Skill-Building Workshop is a mandatory prerequisite for those who would like to retake the written examination due to: 1. failing the written exam (not achieving a minimum required score of 80%), or 2. not passing the oral exam within 2 years of passing the written exam. If you are a newcomer to the world of court interpreting and would welcome advanced information, you are also invited to join the class. Please do understand that this event does not replace the required two-day ‘Orientation Workshop,’ which the Program offers once a year in January. The workshop is designed for participants of all languages; attendees should bring a tape/digital recorder for practical exercises. The cost of the workshop, including handout material, is $100 for the day of training (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for Nevada residents. Please click here to download a ‘2010 Skill-Building Workshop Registration Form’. The deadline to submit your registration form is May 14, 2010.
