Justice Mark Gibbons was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court in 2002 and served as Chief Justice in 2008. He will also serve as Chief Justice in 2014. Justice Gibbons attended the University of California at Irvine where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree. He continued his education at Loyola University School of Law in Los Angeles, California and received his Juris Doctor in law. Justice Gibbons had a long career as a private attorney specializing in real estate related litigation. Justice Gibbons served as presiding judge of the civil division of the Clark County District Court in 1998. In 2001 he was elected Chief Judge of the Clark County District Court. He served as Chief Judge until he assumed his duties as a Supreme Court Justice. As a justice, he was appointed chair of the Jury Improvement Implementation Committee, planning how to enact the recommendations of the Jury Improvement Commission. He currently chairs the Information Technology Steering Committee, co-chairs the Specialty Court Funding Committee and the Foreclosure Mediation Rules Committee.
