48 New Mediators Being Added to The Foreclosure Mediation Program
Thursday, 01 April 2010 15:30

Forty-eight new mediators have added by the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program, with most being sworn-in by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ron Parraguirre during a March 22 videoconferenced ceremony in Carson City and Las Vegas.

The appointment of the new mediators, following training sessions conducted by the program in March in Clark and Washoe Counties, brings the total number of mediators to 218.  The mediators primarily are Nevada attorneys, experienced mediators, or senior judges.

Chief Justice Parraguirre was in Carson City for the swearing-in ceremony that used the Court’s video system to connect the Carson City courtroom with the Supreme Court’s Las Vegas courtroom at the Regional Justice Center.   This is the second time a videoconferenced swearing-in of mediators was conducted.

The Foreclosure Mediation Program, which began on July 1, initially operated with 95 mediators and added 75 in December 2009.

The new mediators received two-day mediation and foreclosure training.  Sixteen received the training in Reno and 32 went through similar training in Las Vegas.

Since the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program began on July 1, 2009, and through February 2010:

  • 50,559 notices of default have been filed statewide.
  • 5,814 homeowners who received notices of default have requested mediation.
  • 1,440 mediations have been conducted.
